Nothing puts a damper on a weekend at the beach than a weekend full of rain. We had a trip to Ocean City, MD, planned months in advance to celebrate my friend Leela's upcoming wedding. Too bad that after all those insanely hot days we have been having this summer, the one weekend we plan to go to the beach it rains. But we still made sure that the bride-to-bed had a great time!

I was on my way to get a movie at a RedBox when the skies opened up and started pouring buckets of rain down. Unfortunately, I got caught up in the downpour before I could run back into the car. While the rain was pouring, I took the opportunity to snap this abstract photo of a rain drenched view of the RedBox.

We had spent the past 2 days touring the Rhine Valley in western Germany. After leaving the town of Bacharach, we drove ~1hr north west to another river valley area known as the Mosel Valley. The Mosel had been described as a "sleepier version" of the Rhine. But we went to the region for just one night with 2 attractions in mind - Burg Eltz [another wonderfully preserved medieval castle] and the Nurburgring race track [see tomorrows photo for more on that sight]. I had a tough time choosing one photo for the day, but I ultimately chose this one for a few reasons. First, it gives you a great birds-eye view of the town we stayed the night in, Cochem, and the castle that overlooked the town and the Mosel River below. Beautiful countryside, dotted with vineyard plots growing grapes for the famous German Riesling wine. Second, this image also gives you an idea of the weather we were encountering during almost our entire trip. We had expected to tour Germany and Austria in sunshine with temperatures close to 70F. Well, some kind of freak system had settled over almost all of Europe for a few weeks, and we had almost 3 full weeks of fog, drizzle, rain, and temps around 45F-50F. Not what we had expected.... or prepared for! So this also made taking outdoor photos quite a challenge, and there is a lot of post processing done on many of the outdoor photos to reduce the glare from the fog. But the castle, the Mosel, and the wine were still amazing and quite enjoyable!

Rain today, which doesn't make for good photo ops outdoors. Except when it stops raining just for a little bit and there are still rain drops on beautiful spring flowers. :-) A shot of an early blooming azalea bush in my front yard.

Today was super rainy. We were supposed to go to a St. Patty's day event, but with all the rain we were expected to get [and we definitely got it] we decided not to go. But the constant rain made it tough to get outside to take some pictures. Luckily, one of the birds that has a nest in one of our trees decided to brave the rain and perch on top of a bush in our yard for a bit. I was lucky that he stayed still quite a while, giving me a chance to set up my tripod and take a few shots. If you look closely, you can even see the rain drops coming down on the little guy.

For the first time in what feels like forever, rain fell from the sky this afternoon instead of snow. Little signs that spring is slowly approaching are manifesting themselves, and while there is still some snow on the ground, included in this photo, the bright colors of my umbrella and the rain make me think ahead to spring. Only a few more weeks of winter left!
