I've been thinking about taking this image for a while. In fact, I think I've attempted it a few times before, but it never quite turned out right. Tonight, I thought I would give it another shot (literally, I guess). This time I loved the angle of the window drapes and the red color [no digitally added/enhanced] that glowed from the outside lighting. Perfect.

The digital SLR is finally unpacked! As is most of the rest of my suitcase... the jet lag is still hanging around, but we are slowly getting back to "normal". I had actually intended on taking a completely different photo for today. There is a temporary carnival set up down the road from us and I had intended on taking some shots of the ferris wheel and other rides all lit up at night. But I had forgotten my tripod and the images just weren't working for me. So as my husband and I drove to go out and celebrate my last day at my old job (yea!) I thought it would be fun to snap a photo of the street/car lights while he was driving. Yes, no danger here - I was safe and in the passenger seat. I love the streaks of light in this photo.

I love to bake, which I know I have mentioned before, but I also love to cook. I'm one of those cooks that does better when I have a recipe to go off of. I might deviate or improvise a little bit, but I usually stick pretty close to the recipe and thankfully am pretty good at following directions. So if the recipe is good, the meal is usually good. Tonight I spent my evening trying out of a new recipe for tomorrow night's dinner. The recipe was a play off of a traditional recipe - eggplant parmesan. The twist was that instead of fried breaded eggplant, the sliced eggplant was broiled and then wrapped around a filling that contains ricotta, parmesan, and swiss chard. The coolest part of the recipe? The amazing colors of the swiss chard! Such pretty colors, I had to snap a photo. And by the way.... the recipe was fantastic! Although nothing tops a classic....

I enjoyed a date night with my husband tonight. We decided to go see a movie, and for some reason, I decided to bring my camera with me. I didn't get any shots inside the theater [I've been wanting to try something like that] but I did spot this tower of gumball machines outside the theater in the mall. I loved the colors, the shapes, and the repetition.

My husband and I went out with a large group of friends tonight to celebrate our friend's birthday. Our friend, who is part Korean, loves to take his friends to Korean BBQ restaurants. If you have never been to one, it is quite an experience! Kind of like the Melting Pot, but with lots of meat on a grill. At the very end of our meal, the waitresses brought out platters of sliced oranges. I decided to make this the photo of the day because I liked the contrast of the bright orange against the blue and white plate.

This was a busy day. Actually, it has been an insanely busy week. I am currently working hard on making a cake for my friend's baby shower on Saturday, and thus have been spending almost every night this week after work making and decorating the cake. But tonight I had to take a quick break to pick up my husband at the airport. Sensing this might be my only chance to take a picture that didn't involve icing or cake, I brought the camera along. And of course I had to stay in the car in the pick-up lane at the airport, so I took this photo while I was waiting in the car. After making some adjustments in brightness and contrast, I'm loving the way this turned out, especially the little bits of reflecting color coming from inside the airport.

For the first time in what feels like forever, rain fell from the sky this afternoon instead of snow. Little signs that spring is slowly approaching are manifesting themselves, and while there is still some snow on the ground, included in this photo, the bright colors of my umbrella and the rain make me think ahead to spring. Only a few more weeks of winter left!
