Here it is... my latest cake masterpiece! I spent the past two weekends taking an intermediate cake decorating course to learn how to make lots of pretty flowers which ended up being used to make our final cake. I learned how to make chrysantemums, apple blossoms, daffodils, violets, pansies, lilies, and more! I just took a picture of one of the flower clusters from my cake for today's photo, but will be posting a few extra on the other blog soon. Needless to say, it was difficult for me to cut into the cake tonight... but as good as it tasted it was well worth it!! :-)

I spent most of my evening tonight making flowers out of icing for my current cake decorating class. We are learning how to make apple blossoms, shown here, lilys, mums, violets, and other flowers which we will be using to decorate a cake in our final class on Sunday. So you can guess what Sunday's picture has a good chance of being.... :-)

I love to bake. And in the winter time, I definitely crave warm, gooey, sweet comfort foods. So being that over the past few days I have found myself snowed in at home with lots of free time on my hands, what did I do? I baked. I baked brownies. I baked banana nut muffins. I would have baked cookies, too, but I ran out of butter and didn't want to try getting to the store to get more. So today's photo not only represents my recent urge for warm homemade goodies, but also another of my home-bound activities from the past few days. If you want the recipe, check it out here. Back to work tomorrow!

We are having a birthday party for my husband on Saturday, so I have been spending almost every night this past week working on a cake for his party. Now normally I don't go to this much trouble for a cake, but this is his 30th birthday, so I wanted to do something really fun and special for the party. I don't want to spoil the end result yet, so today's picture is of the "discarded" cake pieces after the cake had been cut into shape. Yellow cake with white chocolate mousse filling.... yummmmm! For pictures and a description about the cake making process, be sure to check out my other blog for all the details! [should be posted sometime after the weekend]

In case you can't tell what the object in this photo is, it is one of the attachments for my Kitchen Aid stand mixer. I spent a LOT of time with my mixer tonight, working on a confectionary masterpiece for my husband's 30th birthday party this weekend. I had taken a number of photos of my adventures in baking tonight, but spotted this whisk attachment when I was finishing kitchen clean-up and knew it would end up being the winning photo for the day.
