The black clouds came rolling in just as we got to the pool... Luckily we got home right before the skies opened up and the torrential downpour started!

Our first wedding of the season. Our friends, Fred and Lauren, had a beautiful wedding at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront. I only brought my smaller point & shoot camera, so most of my images didn't turn out as well in the lower light situations. Even this one was a bit blurry, but I loved the interaction between the bride & groom and the beautiful harbor backdrop that I chose it over the other "better quality" pictures.

I was on my way to get a movie at a RedBox when the skies opened up and started pouring buckets of rain down. Unfortunately, I got caught up in the downpour before I could run back into the car. While the rain was pouring, I took the opportunity to snap this abstract photo of a rain drenched view of the RedBox.

After an insanely busy weekend, we finally got a chance to do a little relaxing on the Memorial Day holiday. And what else spells the beginning of summer better than a dip in the pool and a good book to read!

"The hills are alive....." Welcome to Salzkammergut, the Lake Region of Austria, also fondly called "Sound of Music" country since it is the region that best represents the beautiful countryside featured in the movie. Since my husband is NOT a big fan of musicals (in fact, he almost abhors them), we did not spend time touring the "Sound of Music" sights, but we did stay one night in the lake region. This image is of a town called Hallstatt, and the town we stayed the night in, Obertraun, was just 5 minutes away across the lake. Despite the gloomy weather that was continuing to plague us, we enjoyed the beautiful views of the alpine villages set on the lake with the majestic mountains jutting up in the background. These towns were also well known for serving fish freshly caught in the lake, so we welcomed the opportunity to take a break from our pork-focused diet. Hallstatt is also known for its large salt mines which has been a huge source of income for the town for thousands of years, but unfortunately we arrived in town too late to take a tour of the mines. Still, we enjoyed the serenity and beauty of the Salzkammergut.

Rain today, which doesn't make for good photo ops outdoors. Except when it stops raining just for a little bit and there are still rain drops on beautiful spring flowers. :-) A shot of an early blooming azalea bush in my front yard.

Since the sun was finally shining today, I went for a brief walk after work today around the golf course behind our house. There were some beautiful clouds that made for some pretty views, and enhancing the color saturation for this photo helped the pretty colors in the sky pop a little bit more. Looking forward to when there will be leaves on the trees in a few months!

For the first time in what feels like forever, rain fell from the sky this afternoon instead of snow. Little signs that spring is slowly approaching are manifesting themselves, and while there is still some snow on the ground, included in this photo, the bright colors of my umbrella and the rain make me think ahead to spring. Only a few more weeks of winter left!

Winter snow is still on the ground, and it is still cold outside, which is expected for February. But... the thawing process is well under way, and all the melting snow has left soggy grass and puddles of water everywhere! But that also makes for some cool reflection photo opportunities.

Wouldn't say I was particularly inspired by doing the dishes tonight... just thought about trying to capture the rising bubbles and this was what I ended up with. A little post-processing done to the image, but not too much.

Today was another day of photo-related frustrations. I took a bunch of photos around the house... nothing. Blah. And then it started pouring rain outside. So I grabbed my umbrella and trudged outside to try and get something water related... and ended up with this. Water rapidly flowing down the street toward the sewer. You can even see some texture from the rain drops hitting the water. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little more satisfying!

I went for my first "official" photo walk today. "Official" in the sense that I'm walking around with a camera on purpose while NOT on vacation. Solely for the purpose of taking photos. It was a great day to do it since the weather was milder and thus more people were out enjoying the sunshine. There were a number of photos that I really liked, but I thought this one was fun - reminds me of my childhood. Check out my other photos from the day on my "Experimenting with Life" blog.

What do you photograph on a dreary, rainy day in January? Water. Somewhere. Somehow. I was trying to figure out what to do when I noticed all the water drops collecting on a bench on our back deck - bingo! My husband laughed at me as I crouched on a tarp and towel on my back deck (so as not to get wet) to get just the right angle and zoom of these water droplets. I may have looked silly taking this picture, but it was well worth the effort. :-)
