We bought this wood mantle from someone who lives down the street from us months ago. But it has been sitting in our garage since then, patiently waiting to be lightly touched up and mounted in our family room. Finally, we got around to fixing it up tonight, including a light coat of stain to darken the wood a bit. The end result looks great! In the next few days we'll get it mounted inside and I can't wait to see the result.

Happy 4th of July! We celebrated our holiday by having a cookout with our parents, and capped off the evening with some commercial fireworks we bought at a stand down the street. A nice relaxing evening with family and no crowds to fight after the "show" was over!

This image definitely goes into that "I don't know how I managed to take this" folder. I was coming home late at night from a movie with friends and was looking around outside in the dark for photo since my day was just about up and I needed a photo still. I had already tried capturing lightning bugs the other day unsuccessfully, but another one caught my eye. It was barely blinking, but also not moving in a tree next to our driveway. When I tried to get a closer look, I realized that what I had actually spotted in the dark was a lightning bug caught up in a spider web. I ran inside to grab my speedlight flash and somehow managed to focus well enough in the pitch black dark to get this image of the spider spinning its web while holding on to its midnight snack. Can't believe I even saw it, let alone managed to capture it.

Our first wedding of the season. Our friends, Fred and Lauren, had a beautiful wedding at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront. I only brought my smaller point & shoot camera, so most of my images didn't turn out as well in the lower light situations. Even this one was a bit blurry, but I loved the interaction between the bride & groom and the beautiful harbor backdrop that I chose it over the other "better quality" pictures.

I've been thinking about taking this image for a while. In fact, I think I've attempted it a few times before, but it never quite turned out right. Tonight, I thought I would give it another shot (literally, I guess). This time I loved the angle of the window drapes and the red color [no digitally added/enhanced] that glowed from the outside lighting. Perfect.

Anyone else finding a bit of difficulty with inspiration these days? 6+ months through and I'm starting to struggle if there aren't any events or activities going on. My husband came up with this idea. Movement from a ceiling fan in our family room. Not bad, but I'm going to need to start thinking harder for ideas.

My husband and I finally celebrated our wedding anniversary today by doing some bike riding and tubing in the historic town of Harpers Ferry, WV. Since it was not practical to bring along the big dSLR camera, I brought my smaller point and shoot along instead to capture a few images from our celebratory outing. This image was taken on a school bus while we were waiting to be driven to the area where we were going to put our tubes in the water. It was a fun day and the tubing was so relaxing! A fun way to celebrate together.

Today is Friday. Instead of going straight home after work, I stuck around the downtown area, waiting for a dinner date with my husband and a few other people. I walked around the downtown area and tried to get a few shots of people and the scenery, including this contrasting shot of a few kids messing around on their bikes under a painted bridge.

One of my recent projects around the house - an herb garden! I must confess I cheated and had to buy the starter plants at the local nursery - I've tried growing them from seeds before and it did not go well. But so far they are doing great and I love being able to cook with them whenever I need them.

I was on my way to get a movie at a RedBox when the skies opened up and started pouring buckets of rain down. Unfortunately, I got caught up in the downpour before I could run back into the car. While the rain was pouring, I took the opportunity to snap this abstract photo of a rain drenched view of the RedBox.

June 21, 2008 - two years ago today I married my best friend. While we won't have the chance to celebrate our anniversary until this weekend, we still made a point to have a nice dinner together and reminisce over the wonderful memories from that day. Can't wait to see what the future still has in store for us....

Happy Father's Day! To celebrate, my family went to go see the movie "Shrek: Forever After" in 3D. The glasses always look funny on everyone, so I had to grab a shot of the family with their glasses on.

Our friends invited us out to a winery tour in Western Maryland. We got a brief tour of the winery followed by a private wine tasting in a tent behind the vinyards. Good thing we were under a tent in the shade because it was a hot day! We spent the rest of the afternoon with a few chilled bottles, enjoying the sun setting behind the winery. I had taken a few photos of the winery and the wine tasting, but thought this one of our friend, Keith, with a butterfly catcher [have no clue who brought this!] was more fun.

Today I worked on trying out a technique I had heard about - a zoom barrel blur. The idea is that you move the barrel of the lens in or out while the camera is exposing the shot, creating this blurred effect. I'm not sure if this is the best example of this technique, but I was giving it a try because we were assigned with the task of trying something new and out of our "comfort zone" for my photography guild. So I gave it a shot...no pun intended... and this was what I ended up with. Not bad... but not exactly my favorite image ever.
